Do you have old coins, watches or jewellery to sell?

By Brittany Ryan from Cyprus Mail October 2007

A ROADSHOW that travels the world to buy coins, jewellery and watches yesterday finished its second day of trading in Nicosia, before moving on to Limassol and Paphos.

The Roadshow EU is led by Morne Botes, who travels Europe with a team of experts. They leave their London base for a new European destination every second week.

Botes said Europe’s islands have been the best market thus far. They recently visited the Portugese island of Madeira where they were able to purchase rare items. So far in Cyprus the team has enjoyed a steady turnout with about 50 people stopping by each day. They encourage anyone who is interested to stop by and offer each potential client an appraisal and historical background on their piece free of charge. Although Botes and his entourage of antique experts are pleased just to converse about the pieces they come across, they boast a high sales rate.

According to Botes, 95 per cent of the people who come in to inquire about their pieces end up selling them. He attributes this impressive figure to the rates they are able to offer. With seven years experience, the team evaluates the gold market and offers clients only the highest price. Because the team is flexible in its resale markets, supplying these rare items for jewellery shops, private collectors and antique fairs such as the Portobello market in Notting Hill, they are able to accept a variety of pieces.

Although Botes and his team covet watches as their most valuable product, they are pleased with the jewellery they have found in Cyprus. Botes explains that because the days of men in long gold chains are over for the most part, the previous owners of such accessories are willing to sell.

n The roadshow will be operating within the Londa Hotel, Limassol  and at the Amathus Beach Hotel, Paphos. Tel: 0044 7960 165 618
