Trading in gold in Eden Dish Hotel

ENSCHEDE - "Yes, I’ve sold them." Quite excited, Mrs.Van de Vegt from Enschede comes back from the valuation table. She has left her gold coins on the table. The money is in her purse.
But she believes it’s a good deal.

RoadshowEU can currently be found at the Dish hotel. An English family company that travels throughout the whole of Europe, sets itself up in a hotel in a town centre and buys anything made of gold: jewellery, coins, watches.

Five tables in a row with the same number of English valuers behind them. There is an interpreter on stand-by.

The Twente public flow steadily into the room. Hesitant and uncomfortable at first. But this is not something normal for Twente. "This way of selling is new to most people", according to Roadshow EU owner Shani Petzer, "but once they see how we work and that we offer realistic prices, people sometimes come back three times with new items." On average she welcomes eighty to one hundred and fifty people every day.

The company resells items with collectable value on the London market, the other gold is melted down to be used as raw material for new jewellery. What people bring generally consists of broken jewellery 'that you wouldn’t wear' or objects that have been inherited 'that are just left in a drawer'. The latter is true for a woman from Enschede who gets up from the table extremely pleased. "Last Saturday I took a few bracelets and rings to a jeweller in town. He offered 125 euros for them. Here I’ve got 430 euros for them..."
