VALUABLES - WHO’S BEHIND ROADSHOW EU?

Euro Weekly News 03/09/2009

YOU may have noticed their big colour adverts in magazines and newspapers in Spain every month over the past year, this is Roadshow EU.

The company buys vintage collectable watches, jewellery and big diamonds from the public, always at secure five star hotels.

But who is behind this interesting idea? Husband and wife team, Morne Botes and Shani Petzer started the company a couple of years ago. The have visited every major city in Europe with the concept and still manage three teams a week throughout Europe.

The couple recently moved to Marbella after the birth of their son Carter Coen. “We want to give Carter the same kind of childhood we had in South Africa”, says Botes.

Morne and Shani are originally from South Africa. After finishing university in South Africa at the age of 21 the

Morne also tried his hand at acting and was fortunate to land small parts in big Hollywood productions shooting in London. He appeared alongside Renee Zellwegger in the Bridget Jones sequel as an office manager. He also appeared in Woody Allen’s Match Point, Eastern Promises, Elizabeth II and numerous advertisements, including BT. “I have been very lucky to have met all these amazingly talented people.

I worked on the Guy Ritchie film ‘Rock n Rolla’, on the very first day of shooting with all the cast and crew there it was like a big party” says Botes. Morne started a collectable watch business for one of his accounting companies in London in 2002 and managed it until 2006. Morne and Shani invested their savings in property in London and in 2006 the first of their investments started paying dividends.

The company was an immediate success after visiting Belgium, Finland and Holland. “After three years we still have a team in Holland every month buying collectable watches and jewellery”, says Botes.

They started doing buying events at the Gran Guadlapin Hotel again in Spain last June and due to its success decided to move to Marbella and have a monthly venue. “We found a stunning villa in Nueva Andalucia and moved there in April. We already have many friends in the area and love the lifestyle and of course all the sun. Marbella is similar to the life we had in South Africa. We still had a shark cage diving business there till June last year and used to visit once a year for a month” says Botes.

“We hope to stay on the Costa del Sol for the rest of our life and, at the moment, the future looks bright. We are always looking for new business opportunities and would like to invest more in the area. Our son loves the sand, sea and sunshine” says Shani Petzer.
